Cyclops is furious upon realizing Wolverine has departed, suspecting it’s due to unspoken feelings for Jean Grey, who understands the true reason behind his sudden exit.
In the frigid expanses of Northern Canada, Logan‘s journey takes a perilous turn as he discovers Sabretooth‘s pursuit. A fierce confrontation sends Wolverine tumbling off a cliff, plunging into the icy waters below, where he narrowly clings to life on a floating ice shard. Sabretooth, convinced of his rival’s impending doom, vows to find and bury Wolverine’s body.
At the X-Mansion, Gambit introduces the idea of exploring Genosha, an exclusive haven for mutants. Despite Cyclops’ scepticism, suspecting Gambit’s ulterior motive to bask on sunlit shores, Professor X endorses the notion of a respite, deploying Gambit, Storm and Jubilee to the island.
Simultaneously, Wolverine finds salvation from the icy grip of death in the care of an Inuit tribe. Awakening in the village elder’s abode, his rapid recovery astonishes the community. Grateful, Logan offers his aid, impressing the villagers with his formidable strength during a fishing excursion. Amidst this newfound tranquillity, Logan feels a sense of serenity. Yet, this peace is short-lived as Kiyoek, envious of Logan’s growing favour, encounters Sabretooth. The menacing mutant discloses their shared nature to Kiyoek, coercing him into a scheme to expel Wolverine from the village.
Upon their arrival in Genosha, Gambit, Storm and Jubilee check into a hotel, unaware that the desk clerk has identified them as mutants and discreetly assigned them to a secluded bungalow.
Meanwhile, Wolverine and Kiyoek embark on a hunting trip, only to return to a village in flames, courtesy of Sabretooth’s ruthless attack. The inhabitants are missing, and Wolverine swears to track down his nemesis. Kiyoek, feeling responsible, joins the pursuit. They discover the villagers bound on an ice bridge, with explosives set to detonate. A fierce battle ensues between Wolverine and Sabretooth, with Kiyoek intervening just in time to turn the tide. Wolverine outmanoeuvres Sabretooth, sending him plummeting into the abyss below. Together, Kiyoek and Wolverine free the villagers and thwart the explosive trap. With their home destroyed, the villagers face the necessity of relocating to the city.
As night falls, the unsuspecting trio of Gambit, Storm and Jubilee succumb to a gas attack in their Genoshan lodging. In their vulnerable state, they are captured by a Sentinel, setting the stage for an uncertain fate…

In the comics, Logan often retreats into the Canadian wilderness to find solace, a theme explored in issues like Wolverine #34.
Genosha, a seemingly idyllic island, debuted in Uncanny X-Men #235. However, its dark secret of mutant enslavement was uncovered by the X-Men, revealing the Genoshan authorities’ duplicity. Their uniforms come straight from the comic pages.
